What are the advantages of obtaining my California Medical Cannabis Recommendation now that cannabis is legal? There is a lot more than this but let’s start here:
- Access to more dispensaries across the state (over 1,400).
- Upon receiving your MMIC, you would not be subject to the state sales or usage fee.
- If you would have more than an ounce of marijuana on you, you will be protected from detention.
- Increased standard ownership caps (up to eight ounces at one time).
- If the doctor recommends it, the ownership limit may be increased even more.
- Larger cultivation permits in some areas of law.
- Lower age limit to purchase medical cannabis (18 years for medical vs. 21 years for recreational).
I’m under 21. Do I qualify?
Yes. You have to be 18 or older to get your medical cannabis card from Farmacist.
What conditions qualify me to become a medical cannabis patient in California?
- Chronic pain,
- Or any other illness for which marijuana provides relief.
What is the difference between an Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) and a doctor’s recommendation?
You must provide an official written copy of the medicinal marijuana recommendation to legally access dispensaries and protect yourself from unjust punishment by the law. The voluntary Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) is more convenient evidence of your patient status, and it includes the specifics required by everyone, even law enforcement, to validate it. However, just in case, we recommend keeping a paper copy of your recommendation in your car at all times. For this purpose, most patients opt to purchase an additional copy of their referral at the checkout.
MMIC holders do get an additional advantage that does not come with a doctor’s prescription. Only MMIC holders are excluded from the state sales tax on medical marijuana in California. If all you have is a recommendation, marijuana would cost the same as recreational cannabis. How Do I Obtain an MMIC?
The Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) program is governed by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The Medical Marijuana Program (MMP) was established to provide eligible patients and caregivers with a voluntary medical marijuana identification card issuance and registration program. Please visit their site here to learn more about obtaining a CDPH-issued MMIC and information on how to apply.

Do I need a webcam or specific device to complete the Farmacist process?
No, doctors like to have a face-to-face consultation with you to assess your medical needs. But if there are technical issues, the interview can be done over the phone if the doctor thinks it is necessary.
Farmacist has excellent technical assistance staff that can assist you with any technical problems. To participate in a live chat, please click here.
Where do I use my medical marijuana recommendation?
The medical marijuana recommendation you receive from Farmacist is valid at all California medical dispensaries and medical delivery services! The recommendation comes with a digital ID card that is encrypted and displays the handwritten signature of the doctor, and can be verified online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How do I buy medical cannabis in California?
Farmacist has certified medical cannabis physicians available on demand. Once you are approved online, you will be able to purchase medical cannabis the same day (usually within an hour) you’re approved. We send you a digital copy of your recommendation, allowing you to place orders online from delivery services like those found on Farmacist. You can visit every medical dispensary in the state once your official hard copy arrives in the mail.
Would I be able to get a medical card if I do not have a California ID?
You certainly will! It is a common misconception that you must have a California ID. For California, we approve every kind of U.S.-issued identity. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept photo ID issued outside of the United States, but you can use a U.S. Visa with your photo and date of birth.
Bear in mind that most dispensaries would require a California ID if you step in and make a purchase. However, you can order from most online delivery services as well as any delivery service near you listed on Farmaci.st using your recommendation and any verified U.S. ID.

California’s Medical Marijuana Regulations
How much cannabis can I buy in California?
Recreational buyers can buy up to one ounce of flower or up to 8 grams of concentrate. Medical buyers can buy considerably more flower—8 ounces or concentrate that can be produced from 8 ounces of cannabis.
Does my MM card protect me from a legal offense?
Yes, you are safe from marijuana violations relating to shipping, possession, and supplying under Prop 215, SB 420, and Health and Safety Codes pertaining to ownership of cannabis flower, concentrates, and transportation by a caregiver throughout the state of California—as long as you hold no more than the amount permitted by statute. Is it possible to change the date on which my recommendation was issued? NO WAY, your doctor’s recommendation from Farmacist is a legal, medical document signed by a board-licensed doctor and recognized by dispensaries and legal offices alike. While other sites might encourage you to alter the date of your documentation; this is an immoral and unlawful activity. A recommendation like this would put you at risk of legal prosecution.
Is a prescription the same as a recommendation?
Although marijuana is still classified as a Schedule I substance under federal law, doctors cannot legally “prescribe” cannabis for your condition(s) or symptom(s). However, because of Proposition 215, they can issue “recommendations” that a patient uses medical cannabis for their condition(s) or symptom(s).
Is it necessary for me to renew my medical marijuana card?
Yes, it is important. Our recommendations are only valid for one full year (don’t trust any service that gives you less), and you will need to renew your recommendation to possess and consume cannabis legally. But do not worry; our renewal process is just as short and simple as signing up!
Does insurance cover my doctor’s recommendation?
Hopefully, insurance companies will pay the expenses of medicinal marijuana examinations and treatment for patients soon (once further scientific research is completed and the drug’s Schedule I status is removed). Which other states will accept my CA recommendation?
Currently, you can only use your California medical marijuana recommendation to shop at Nevada dispensaries if you already have a California ID. Other states allow you to possess up to a certain amount and use it for personal consumption, but you cannot purchase it.
Is it possible to use temporary recommendations on the same day? You can, of course, use your digital copy to buy online from sites like Farmaci.st, or you can print it out and bring it to a storefront dispensary. However, we strongly recommend calling ahead to ask if they will accept your temporary electronic copy, as many storefront dispensaries will not on your first visit.
Can I still get fired for using cannabis in California?
Unfortunately Yes. Employees who consume cannabis are not protected by Prop 64. It protects the employer’s right to “maintain a drug-free workplace” and tests employees and prospective employees for cannabis use. If your work requires drug tests, you’ll need to make wise career choices based on your medical need for cannabis.
Can I grow plants? If so, how many?
Well, indeed! Indoors, you can grow up to six plants. Any municipal councils permit recreational growers to cultivate outdoors but there are not many. Several jurisdictions are now attempting to restrict medicinal cultivation to six plants.
Can I give my cannabis away?
Yes, you can. You can give away up to one ounce of flower or up to 8 grams of concentrate as long as you receive no payment for the wonderful gift.
Is it permissible for me to smoke in public?
No, it is not. Cannabis smoke is regarded the same as tobacco smoke in California. If smoking a cigarette is prohibited in a particular place, so is smoking cannabis. While there are some cannabis lounges and cannabis events in the state that allow public smoking, you are, for the most part, restricted to enjoying cannabis in private homes. And do not smoke in a car, even if you are just a passenger!
Farmacist’s Policies and Procedures
Will I be on a public database?
NO, our system stores the information securely on an encrypted HIPAA-compliant server. It can not be found on any public record or database. Your patient status can be checked on our website, but only anyone with your patient ID number can do so(i.e., dispensaries verifying your recommendation).
What does HIPAA compliance mean?
HIPAA laws require that all confidential information (especially when it comes to medical records) cannot be shared without the individual’s expressed consent. This ensures that if you see an MMJ doctor through our website, your information is not shared with anyone but the doctor unless you explicitly permit it (like if you were to visit a dispensary or order from a dispensary).
How can I confirm the validity of my medical marijuana card?
Two different sites are used to verify your recommendation. For your electronic recommendation, you will verify at https://Farmaci.st/verify/, while your paper copy with the embossed seal and/or your Digital ID card will be verified at https://cannabisberify.com/verify. Both of these services are available 24/7!
How long will it take to get my recommendation?
The entire MMJ evaluation process takes 15-20 minutes for most people. If you are approved, you will receive a digital Medical Marijuana Card that can be installed in your Google or Apple Wallet of your recommendation via email within a few minutes, and your official paper copy will be able to download the official copy from your user dashboard at any time.
I have not received my recommendation yet. What do I do?
If you haven’t received your recommendation within 7-8 business days,. Please email us at support@Farmaci.st to request replacements.
What is the billing procedure?
You will be able to use a Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX credit or debit card once you enter the payment stage of your online medical marijuana evaluation. To process your card, we use a secure processor that employs the same encryption technologies that all major banks employ. If you are denied a medical cannabis recommendation, you will be given a full refund on the same card you used to make your purchase. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any billing questions about your CA recommendation.
What is your refund policy?
We provide a full refund within 14 days for California residents if they have not used the certification at any dispensary. Please send an email to email@example.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to ensure that you are fully satisfied with your purchase because you, the client, are the most important thing to us. We are legally obliged to deactivate your medical recommendation and ID once you have been refunded. You will not be able to use your recommendation at any dispensary in California nor benefit from the legal coverage the medical recommendation offers. Please give 3-5 business days for the funds to be transferred back to the card used for the purchase until a refund has been initiated. If any issues arise, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Whom do I contact for billing inquiries?
Please reach for all questions related to billing by emailing them at firstname.lastname@example.org
